Each ml of Drontal Puppy Oral Suspension for Puppies contains:

Pyrantel pamoate 14.4mg
Febantel 15mg

For puppies and young dogs up to one year of age.

Drontal Plus Canine, containing Praziquantel, Pyranel pamoate, and Febantel, is an effective de-worming agent for dogs, as well as cats. It is available in three tablet sizes for puppies or small dogs, medium-sized dogs, and for large dogs. Similarly, different doses are available for cats, as well.


Drontal Plus is a three-in-one potent anti-parasitic medication as it contains 3 de-worming agents in one tablet.

Together, Praziquantel, Pyranel pamoate, and Febantel are a deadly combination for paralyzing and expelling Tapeworms, Hookworms, Roundworms, and Whipworms that make the lives of our pets miserable. They also pose a danger to humans, for if the eggs of these worms that are present in the environment, get accidentally swallowed by children, or adults, or penetrate through the skin then these helminths can prove to be a grave health hazard for humans as well.

Drontal Plus available that can be used as a preventive for infection caused by worms, so regular de-worming has to be done. It is recommended that pets should be given a de-worming medicine once every 3 months.

Drontal Plus is a single dose, prescribed according to weight, and may be given regardless of food, but please stick to the dose and instructions given by the vet.

For Dogs
Most dogs have been receptive to eating Drontal Plus tablets by hand.

For Cats
Cats are fussy! The medicine can be mixed with a little food – cheese, meat, or beef and given to the pet.

Drontal plus tablets are usually well-tolerated, with hardly any side-effects.

Dogs and cats may temporarily have:-

• Diarrhea, or soft stools.


• Vomiting, or gagging.


• Salivation.


• Anorexia.

Administration of 5mg or 10mg/kg of Febantel over a period of 90 days has been reported to cause testicular and prostatic hypoplasia in dogs.

Drontal Plus should not be given to pups below 3 weeks in age or those who weigh less than 2 lbs. There have been reports of soft stools, vomiting/gagging, or an increase of the enzymes in the liver.

Kittens who are below 6 weeks in age, or those who are very weak, should not be given this medicine. Rarely, kittens or cats have shown symptoms of extended bouts of diarrhea or salivation.

You must consult the vet if your pet is unduly sick, or any of the above symptoms persist or worsen.

You are not likely to give an overdose. In case this occurs, and you notice some unusual symptoms or behavior in your pet, please contact the vet immediately.

Since it is a single dose drug, you are not likely to forget giving it your pet.

Drontal plus is needed by dogs and cats for helping them to get rid of various infections caused by worms. An accidental ingestion of the eggs of these worms by humans, can result in great damage to their system when the larvae grows inside their bodies. Some of these infections, such as Toxocara canis [present in dogs], and T.cati [present in cats], can cause permanent damage to eyesight in human beings, as well as damage other organs. The eggs of Hookworms hatch in the soil, and their larvae enter the skin of animals, or humans, making their way through the bloodstream to other organs in the body.

Drontal plus is something of a wonder-drug for dogs and cats. Praziquantel [used to treat humans also for various worm infections], is a broad-based anthelmintic that acts on the helminths [worms] by increasing a calcium influx, inhibiting glucose uptake and lowering their glycogen level, which results in paralysis in the adult parasites. It, however, has no effect on the juvenile schistosomes. Pyrantel pamoate is a depolarizing neuromuscular agent, which acts on vulnerable worms, causing a neuromuscular paralysis in them. Febantel is also said to deplete the energy level of the worms, by inhibiting the glucose uptake, thereby leading to paralysis. The paralysed worms are expelled through feces.

Pets who are infected by E.multilocularis and are exposed to wild rodents, require to be re-treated at intervals of 21-26 days, to prevent shedding of infectious eggs, as these can cause formation of multilocular cysts in the lungs, liver and other body organs. This can be dangerous for humans also, for if the eggs of this parasite are ingested, it can lead to serious health problems, beginning with the formation of cysts.

Sometimes, though the adult worms are killed, the eggs of the hookworms or roundworms keep getting passed out with the feces, even for a week after the first course of treatment is over. In this case, a stool test is necessary to determine the presence of eggs in the stool; if these are still present, then your pet will have to be re-treated.

Drontal Plus tablets should be stored at or below a room temperature of 25oC, in a container that has been tightly capped, away from heat, light and dampness. If stored at ordinary room temperature then the medicine should be used within 6 days, but if it has been refrigerated, it can be re-used before 2 months are over.
