Irbesartan (Avapro) can cause injury and possibly death to a developing fetus when used after the third month of pregnancy. Talk with your doctor at once if you suspect that you are pregnant.

Irbesartan (Avapro) is an angiotensin 2 receptor antagonist.

Do not take potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium without talking to your doctor first.

Take Irbesartan (Avapro) exactly as directed.

Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Anxiety; chest pain; diarrhea; dizziness; flu; headache; heartburn/indigestion; muscle injury; tiredness; muscle pain; nausea; nervousness; runny nose; sinus abnormality; sore throat; stomach pain; swelling; upper respiratory tract infection; urinary tract infection; vomiting.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain; fast heartbeat; fainting.

Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

Lithium or potassium-sparing diuretics (eg, spironolactone) because their actions and side effects may be increased by Irbesartan (Avapro)

If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding

if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement

if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

if you have kidney function problems, low blood volume, or low blood sodium levels

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Treating high blood pressure.

Irbesartan (Avapro) may be used alone or with other blood pressure medicines.

Irbesartan (Avapro) may also be used to treat congestive heart failure.

Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F / 15 to 30 degrees C, away from light and moisture.

Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
