Take ramipril exactly as directed.

Check with your doctor before you use a salt substitute or a product that has potassium in it.

Although side effects from Ramipril (Altace) are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

chest pain
cough
diarrhea
difficulty breathing or swallowing
dizziness or lightheadedness
excessive tiredness
fainting
fever
headache
rash
sore throat
swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue, arms, or legs
unusual bruising
upset stomach
yellowing of the skin or eyes

Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.

If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding

if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement

if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

if you have heart or blood vessel problems, liver problems, or kidney problems (eg, kidney artery narrowing, dialysis, kidney transplant)

if you have high blood potassium levels or low blood sodium levels, or are on a low sodium diet

if you have a severe autoimmune disease, lupus, scleroderma (a skin disease), or bone marrow depression

if you will be having surgery

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Ramipril (Altace) controls high blood pressure.

Ramipril (Altace) is not a cure.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C / 59 and 86 degrees F.

Ramipril (Altace) can cause injury and possibly death to a developing fetus when used after the third month of pregnancy. Contact your doctor at once if you suspect that you are pregnant.
