Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic.

How to use
Swallow Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) whole with a glass of water.
Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) is best taken on an empty stomach, one or two hours prior to your meal.
Take Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) exactly as directed.

Side Effects
Inform your health care professional if you notice any of the symptoms listed below or any other symptoms which are severe or persistent.
Agitation
Blurry Vision
Breathing Difficulties
Fever
Hallucinations
Muscle Pain
Nausea
Palpitations
Severe Rash
Weakness

Drug Interaction
Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:
Cisapride because the risk of serious side effects, including irregular heartbeat, may be increased
Arsenic, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (eg, ibuprofen), or probenecid because side effects, such as seizures, may occur
Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), arsenic, cyclosporine, methadone, methotrexate, sulfonylureas (eg, glyburide), theophyllines, tizanidine, or xanthines (eg, theophylline) because the actions and side effects of these medicines may be increased
Hydantoins (eg, phenytoin) or live, oral typhoid vaccine because their effectiveness may be decreased by Ciprofloxacin (Cipro)

Over Dose
In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Notes
Drink lots of water and avoid caffeine related products while on a course with this medication.
Inform your doctor or health care professional if you have or have ever had Arthritis, Memory Loss or Personality Changes, Depression, Mental Illness, Head injury(s) of any kind, Seizures, Strokes or Kidney and/or Liver Disease.

Missed Dose
Do not double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) is used in treating bacterial infections.

Other Uses
Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) may also be used to prevent or slow anthrax after exposure.

Storage
Store at room temperature below 30 degrees C / 86 degrees F.

Precaution
Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) only works against bacteria; it does not treat viral infections.
Diabetes patients - Cipro may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine.
Contact your doctor right away if stomach pain or cramps, severe diarrhea, or bloody stools occur. Do not treat diarrhea without first checking with your doctor.
