Topiramate (Topamax) is used to help control some types of seizures in the treatment of epilepsy.

How to use
Topiramate (Topamax) may be taken with or without food, on a full or an empty stomach.
Take Topiramate (Topamax) medicine every day exactly as ordered by your doctor in order to improve your condition as much as possible.

Side Effects
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur or any other symptoms that seem severe/persistent:
Any vision problems(especially blurred vision, double vision, eye pain or rapidly decreasing vision)
burning/prickling/tingling sensations clumsiness/unsteadiness
confusion
continuous uncontrolled back-and-forth or rolling eye movements
dizziness
drowsiness
eye redness
generalized slowing of mental and physical activity
increased eye pressure
memory problems
menstrual changes
menstrual pain
nervousness
speech or language problems
trouble in concentrating or paying attention
unusual tiredness or weakness

Drug Interaction
Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Topiramate (Topamax) or any other medications.
Tell your doctor/pharmacist what prescription/nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking.
Be sure to mention any of the following:
acetazolamide (Diamox)
antidepressants
antihistamines
cholestyramine
dichlorphenamide
digoxin
ipratropium
iron
isoniazid
medications for irritable bowel disease mental illness
motion sickness
Parkinson's disease
ulcers/urinary problems
metformin
methazolamide
oral contraceptives (birth control pills) other medications for seizures such as carbamazepine
phenytoin
salicylate pain relievers such as aspirin choline magnesium trisalicylate
choline salicylate
diflunisal
magnesium salicylate
salsalate
sedatives
sleeping pills
tranquilizers
valproic acid
zonisamide

Over Dose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Notes
Topiramate (Topamax) medicine may cause some people to have blurred vision, double vision, clumsiness or unsteadiness, or to become dizzy, drowsy, or have trouble in thinking.
Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor. This especially includes nonprescription medicines for appetite control, asthma, colds, cough, hay fever, or sinus problems.

Missed Dose
IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Uses
Topiramate (Topamax) medicine cannot cure epilepsy and will only work to help control seizures for as long as you continue to take it.

Storage
STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light.

Precaution
Oral contraceptives (birth control pills) containing estrogen may not work properly if you take them while you are taking Topiramate (Topamax).
Do not stop taking Topiramate (Topamax) without first checking with your doctor.
It is important that you drink plenty of fluids every day during therapy with Topiramate (Topamax) to help prevent kidney stones from forming.
