How to use
In children, dosage may also be based on body weight.
Take Hydroxyzine (Atarax) medication as directed.
Hydroxyzine (Atarax) Oral is taken by mouth as needed.

Side Effects
agitation, nervousness, excitability, not able to sleep
dilated pupils
blurred vision
fast/irregular heartbeat or palpitations
muscle/facial twitches
pain/difficulty passing urine
seizures
slurred speech/confusion
tremor
unusual weakness

Drug Interaction
Avoid taking MAO inhibitors within 2 weeks before, during or after treatment with Hydroxyzine (Atarax).
Hydroxyzine (Atarax) can cause drowsiness & other effects, other medicines may increase these effects. Medicines that may interact include:
alcohol
barbiturate medicines
seizures medication
medicines for colds, hay fever or other allergies
medicines for mental depression/anxiety/emotional disturbances
medicines for pain
medicines for sleep
muscle relaxants

Over Dose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose may include unusual drowsiness and dizziness.

Do not share Hydroxyzine (Atarax) medication with others.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. Do not take double or extra doses.

Hydroxyzine (Atarax) works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction.
Hydroxyzine (Atarax) is used for the short-term treatment of nervousness and tension that may occur with certain mental/mood disorders.

Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15- 30 degrees C / 59-86 degrees F.

Precaution
Before taking Hydroxyzine (Atarax), tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are:
allergic to it or to cetirizine
if you have any other allergies
if you have a medical history wherein you have been taking medication for the same of any nature
Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you are using Hydroxyzine (Atarax).
Caution is advised when using Hydroxyzine (Atarax) in children because they may be more sensitive to its effects.
Hydroxyzine (Atarax) may make you dizzy or drowsy or cause blurred vision; use caution while engaging in activities requiring alertness or clear vision such as driving or using machinery.
